Ensemble Tramuntana
Born the summer of 2014 under Barry Sargent's leadership, Ensemble Tramuntana was created with the idea to take advantage of the talented musicians of the Balearic Islands. The Serra de la Tramuntana, declared a world heritage, has inspired the name of the group. Ensemble Tramuntana varies in formation according to the repertoire: from small chamber ensembles to classical orchestra with winds. They perform 17th, 18th and 19th century repertoire with historical instruments and also enjoy presenting programs with 20th century repertoire on classical instruments.
Ensemble Tramuntana presents the annual "Nits Clàssiques de la Tramuntana" festival, which has been running for twelve years. Not only do they present concerts in the Serra de la Tramuntana (Valldemossa, Sóller, Pollença, Deià, Banyalbufar, Estellencs, Andratx, etc.), but also in Palma and towns in the middle of the island, such as Binissalem, Manacor, Sa Pobla, etc. They also try to bring the classical scene to Eivissa and Formentera.
They have had the privilege of accompanying soloists such as the Mallorcan violinist Francisco Fullana, the French cellist Emannuel Bleuse, the American-French transverso flutist Charles Zebley, the Belgian soprano Sheva Tehoval, the American clarinetist Eric Hoeprich, the Spanish oboist Josep Domènech, the Portuguese soprano Sofia Pedro. They have performed in Palma as part of the “Solleric d’Estiu” cycle at the Casal Solleric, at the Cloister of Sant Francesc under the “Cicle de Capvespres Musicals Iniciatives XXI” and at Bellver Castle. Outside Mallorca, they have performed at the BBVA Festival of Religious Music in Vic (Catalonia) and at the Fortaleza de la Mola (Menorca).
They also organize a youth competition for young talented musicians every year with a very special prize: playing as a soloist with Ensemble Tramuntana. The first edition of 2020 has received a lot of enthusiasm from both young music students and the public.
